YouTube Sued over Copyright Infringement

In the "obvious that it would happen someday" category, YouTube has been sued over copyright infringement.

A journalist and well-known helicopter pilot in Los Angeles has filed suit against video-sharing site YouTube, claiming the company encouraged the site's users to violate copyright law.

Robert Tur says that video he shot of trucker Reginald Denny, who was badly beaten during the 1992 Los Angeles riots, was posted at YouTube without his permission and viewed more than 1,000 times. Tur says in his lawsuit, filed Friday in U.S. District Court, that YouTube is profiting from his work while hurting his ability to license his video.

Everyone expected that this would happen someday as videos are not screened. They have tried to limit their problems with copyrighted material, but you can still find full movies and television shows if you are willing to watch it in multiple parts. I think it is a bit rediculous that he wants $150,000 per violation, but I guess we will have to see how it all plays out.
