Treehugger's Mainstream Discovery: $10M Green Acquisition

treehugger.jpg
Popular green network Treehugger was just acquired by Discovery Channel on August 1 for $10 million dollars. Yes my friends, thanks to Al Gore, Whole Foods and yoga we are no longer in an era of crunchy granola environmentalism - green can actually make greenbacks. According to Ecorazzi and DiggNation, Discovery Channel is beefing up their acquisitions to add clout to their Planet Green lifestyles network set to launch in 50 million homes in 2008. Yes folks, an entire freaking channel! Tree Hugger will move from 1.4 million monthly unique views to a network that boasts 1.5 billion cumulative subscribers in over 170 countries. Finally, a chance for Simran Sethi, popular host of the Sundance Channel's The Green and Tree Hugger TV to become the mainstream green goddess we all knew she could be. Brava Simran! Brava!
