Tiki Bar TV: Forbidden Cocktails In A Swank Pad

tikibar_tv.jpgHave you fallen in love with Lala yet? Stop with your Amber Mac obsession for just a minute and get ready to fall in love all over again. If you haven't yet sampled the forbidden cocktails at the Tiki Bar, you are missing out on one of the funniest independent video productions on the web. Tiki Bar TV debuted in March 2005 and quickly garnered a cult following. The series was even featured by Apple during their launch of the iPod Video. The show has 3 lead characters, Doctor Tiki who prescribes cocktail remedies, Johnny Johnny the mixologist, and the irresistible lush Lala. To this day, the real identity of Lala remains a mystery. What we do know is that the production is based out of Vancouver. CTV's eTalk Daily did an interview with the show's producer Jeff Macpherson who also plays Doctor Tiki on the show. You can watch the interview here. Rocketboom may be the most watched video series on the web, but Tiki Bar can't be far behind.

Tikibar TV is shot in Macpherson's 650-square-foot apartment. New five-minute episodes are added bimonthly. They have no script, other than a vague problem and the name of the cocktail that will solve it. The show has a lot of non-actors that contribute walk-on parts, no crew and very little equipment...Tikibar TV, which was first posted on the Internet in last March, exploded in popularity when it was featured by Steve Jobs in an Apple keynote speech this past October. "We went from 10,000 to 60,000 viewers overnight," says Macpherson. "Now the audience is in the hundreds of thousands."
