The Paperclip

paperclip.jpg

The first time I saw him was on CBC's The Hour with George Stroumboulopoulos. Belcarra, BC-native Kyle MacDonald, 26, was mid-negotiation during his One Red Paperclip crusade. Hoping to turn a series of online barters from a paper clip into a home, blogger MacDonald had already secured himself a Bombardier snowmobile - an item substantially more valuable than his original paper clip. MacDonald obtained his house 14 exchanges later when the mayor of Kipling, Sask. traded MacDonald a split level home for a role in a motion-picture produced by L.A. Law actor Corbin Bernsen. According to the Saskatoon Star Phoenix, to commemorate the great trade-off, the town of Kipling unveiled a 5 meter-long paperclip this week setting a record and hosting the largest paperclip in the world. MacDonald is ecstatic to see his project immortalized and is expected to move into the Kipling home this Labour Day weekend with his girlfriend.

I've got a 13 inch laptop I'll trade for some land, a yurt and a self-composting toilet.
