The Floods

Do you ever wonder if the early ARPANET users lament the influx of content producers on today's internet? I wonder if they liken it to George Romero's Day of the Dead when the first zombies begin thinking for themselves. It's obvious we are hitting critical mass here and while there's no real shortage of bandwidth or ideas, users are getting more territorial. Whether it's via legal action, guerrilla campaigns or user-generated petitions we are taking our battles online. Is this a Tower of Babel? And if so, what would qualify as a web-based flood scenario?

NET DISASTER

In true passive aggressive style, Net Disaster unleashes itself to the furious masses - a deus ex machina to remove all that is shameful and ill-designed on the internets. Let the hand of God smite all that is unholy, sting your prey with a swarm of wasps, or my personal favorite, let Led Zeppelin's wailing guitar licks crash through the sites that make you go, "eww." In "real" life you could always drive a truck into a strategic data centre, but this way you get to do it multiple times.

MOCKERY & GUERRILLA CAMPAIGNS

Pirate Bay recently asserted itself as the "World's Largest Tracker" by topping over 10 million peers and managing over 1 million torrents. The Swedish file sharing site has played a huge role in determining the outcomes of media ownership and use. They are currently being sued by the artist formerly known as and now currently known as Prince. Meanwhile, they are pressing charges against Atari, Ubisoft, Sony, Paramount, Universal and Twentieth Century Fox for infrastructural sabotage, denial of service attacks, hacking and spamming. It seems the pirates are in cahoots with lawyers while the large media companies are allegedly in bed with professional saboteurs. The above guerrilla poster effort is all over Reddit this morning.
