Server Down

Yelp, SixApart, Craigslist, Technorati and Red Envelope ...all down. This morning San Francisco power outages left dotcommers in the dark. 365 Main, a data center south of Market (right in the city's core) lost power to several key clients' servers. While Valleywag speculates that the outage happened due to a drunk employee's rampage, the SF Chronicle reports the event as a citywide phenomenon. Still, that didn't stop several system administrators from lining up at the data center's doors. Notice the redhead in combat boots.

Some of our company's servers are in 365 Main also, and according to our R&D guy who goes there a lot, the craigslist cage is a mess. Instead of rack servers, they have shelves of desktops, tied together weirdly with weird cables. Apparently a real fly-by-night operation. Which is in keeping with the role they play in the Bay Area's economy and nightlife.
