Rebooting Websites

cssreboot.gifIt is that time of year again when many websites change the way they look. On May 1st, two different groups launch their new site designs. There is CSS Reboot, and May 1st Reboot.

A few years ago people decided that getting together to relaunch their websites would be fun, and almost like a competition, though many people I have spoken to found this recent CSS Reboot to be very pressure free. What has grown from a few "rebooters" is now a huge community as more than 1,400 participants willing to change their designs this year in the spring CSS Reboot, up from 900 in the Fall 2005 CSS Reboot.

The growth of this community is phenominal, and it is interesting to see where people go with their designs, as Reboot is seen almost as a fasion show, and many of the designs are used to inspire site designs for the rest of the year.

You can currently see a gallery of all the new and updated designs on CSS Reboot's website.

I think you will see more and more groupings like this in other areas as well, maybe a MySpace Profile Reboot, or a LiveJournal Reboot as people find resources to not only update and change their site designs, but someone becomes a leader and organizes the different communities.
