Open Social: Ninging your Flickr & Tweeting your own Horn

Sorry folks. Memes are closed this week. Everyone has decided they have boners for Google's Open Social.

WHAT IS OPEN SOCIAL?
From my standpoint, because I can't actually build any applications and don't actually know my way around any development platforms, it's kinda nerdy.

But as we know from eighties movies, every nerd has their perfect day. Sometimes that means building a Kelly LeBrock robot. Sometimes that means having someone open up their platform to a developer's frenzy.

WHAT I GET
Basically we are looking at the idea that open social will allow for more robust social apps by maintaining the same connections across social networking sites. Instead of a tiny Facebook widget pooping out factoids about your SuperWall within the same enviroment, we're going to see partnering companies making widgets and applications that can be used on multiple partnering sites. Ah synergy. We'll see how long it takes for one of these big guys to try to hoard all the eyeballs to themselves. Nevertheless, there's peace in the Valley for now.
