Online Swan Song: Blogger Commits Suicide in Car

Jesus. This is horrible. Nick Starr, former Director of Marketing for an undisclosed IT company in Tampa, and homeless professional blogger for Boy Genius Report, No Free Refills and NickStarr.com is the first person to ever commit suicide and post his final brief suicide note to Twitter.

On August 1, Starr committed suicide in his parked car after blogging about his altercation with a Florida police officer that same evening. The 27-year-old blogger first found himself homeless in Sept. 2006 after one of two roommates stole some of his belongings and left Starr and the other roommate short on rent payments. Evicted and unable to rent a new space, Starr stopped looking for a rental accommodation and began staying in hostels eventually opting to sleep in his Hyundai. A self-proclaimed Mac enthusiast, Starr found comfort in the story of Mac employee Andy Bussell, a California blogger who also lived out of his car.

Starr's plan was to buy a truck and move to California. He was recently featured in a St. Petersburg Times article as the first person in line to buy an iPhone at Tampa's Apple Store on June 29.

Unfortunately internet suicide is not a new phenomenon. I first heard of suicide clubs (basically chatrooms for depressed Japanese girls to find solace), when the BBC did a features story in 2004.
