LinkedIn Raises $53 Million, 23andMe Shut Down until Certified

Whoa. CEO of LinkedIn Dan Nye just announced that the popular professional site has taken an additional round of funding from Bain Ventures of $53 million in addition to the original $27 million put up by Sequoia, Bessemer and Greylock Partners. LinkedIn reports 23 million users and has been profitable since 2006 with its subscription-based contact model.

UPDATE- And 23andMe as well as other direct-to-consumer genetic test companies have been shut down in California until certified under Federal and State mandates. 23andMe was launched last year under three directors, including Anne Wojcicki, the wife of Google co-founder Sergey Brin.
