Geist awarded EFF pioneer of the year

University of Ottawa professor Michael Geist was just co-named one of the Electronic Frontier Foundation's Pioneers of 2008 along with Mozilla Foundation's Chair Mitchell Baker.

Geist, best known for organizing the efforts against the Canadian DMCA, has made huge strides in ensuring public consultation around Canadian copyright law. His "Fair Copyright for Canada" Facebook group gained momentum and grew to 50,000 members shortly after Industry Minister Jim Prentice made plans to introduce the bill in the Federal legislature. At this time the bill has not yet been brought forward.
