Did Coldplay Infringe On Joe Satriani?

Joe Satriani filed a copyright infringement lawsuit last week against Coldplay which claims that Coldplay's summer hit single "Viva La Vida" is a rip-off of Satriani's instrumental song "If I Could Fly". The pulse of the blogosphere is clearly on Coldplay's side and this is no surprise given Coldplay has millions of fans worldwide and their hit single sold millions of copies in 36 different countries. Joe Satriani's instrumental song was a virtual unknown until the plagiarism claim was made, so in many ways Joe Satriani is literally getting famous thanks to this controversy. With this viral fight getting more attention by the minute, Coldplay couldn't ignore it any longer and finally released this statement yesterday...

"With the greatest possible respect to Joe Satriani, we have now unfortunately found it necessary to respond publicly to his allegations. If there are any similarities between our two pieces of music, they are entirely coincidental, and just as surprising to us as to him. Joe Satriani is a great musician, but he did not write the song Viva La Vida. We respectfully ask him to accept our assurances of this, and wish him well with all future endeavors. Coldplay."
Does Satriani have a legit bone to pick with Coldplay? Thanks to a YouTube user who mashed-up both songs, you can judge for yourself...
