Deleted From Wikipedia

tara%20hunt.jpg

You may not know this, but Tara Hunt, one of the people who came up with the whole BarCamp idea, no longer has an entry in Wikipedia.

One of the things I like(d) about Wikipedia is that it lists the relatively obscure, but important, individuals making a contribution to the world. (Making the 'pedia a very handy at-a-finger's-touch tool if you're a journalist, for instance.) I do agree that there should be limits on what sort of individuals make the Wikipedia cut, but, if you've made a genuine contribution, been quoted in maybe a few press articles, I'd say there's room for at least a small entry.

Well, you know, I guess Wikipedia doesn't agree on this point -- at least with regards to Ms. Hunt. However, I find it amusing that they can dump a successful businesswoman like Hunt, and keep Toronto's Zanta from being deleted on the grounds that he's a well-known 'street performer'.

Moral of the story: You have a better shot at being a Wikipedia entry if you accost Michael Keaton on the street during the Toronto International Film Festival than you do by running your own business.

Sigh.

UPDATE: Edited to include Ms. Hunt's thoughts on the deletion from her blog. Incidentally, this would be the second time she's been on the Wikipedia chopping block.
