Death Alerts for Baby Boomers

eons.gifIf you are American aged 50 or above, you now have a social networking site. The founder of Monster.com, Jeff Taylor, has launched Eons.com, a site that is much like the teen sites MySpace and Facebook, but for an older more mature crowd.

Instead of career and school sections, Eons.com has interactive games to build brain strength, news on entertainment and hobbies for older people, a personalized longevity calculator and tips to live longer.

It also has a nationwide database of obituaries dating back to the 1930s to which people can add photos and comments.

In addition to adding photos and videos to obituaries, members of Eons.com can sign up to receive an alert when someone from a particular area dies or in response to pre-defined keywords such as a company or school name.

With the group he is marketing to controlling 67 percent of the U.S.'s wealth I am not surprised that someone would set up a site like Eons.com, but will those aged fifty and above feel comfortable using it? The only older person I know that gets excited about using the computer is my grandmother, and that was after two years of living with her, and teaching her about them.
