Those of you keeping track of the HD DVD and Blu-Ray wars, and hedging your bets on an eventual winner, might want to take a look at this:

Could the adult industry's apparent decision to back HD DVD mark a decisive shift in the format wars? Much has been written about the war waged between VHS and Betamax beginning in the mid-70s. A number of factors played into the eventual triumph of VHS: Sony's refusal to license the format during Betamax's first few years, legal battles with the movie industry, the greater recording capacity of VHS (eight hours vs. five), and, perhaps most relevant to this discussion, the adult industry's embrace of VHS.

I don't know if this scares me or not: the thought of porn going hi def. To me, there's a certain something-something about seeing a little video or film grain in your skin flicks. This sort of thing just takes Reality TV to entire new levels. (Cymbal crash!)

But what really amuses me about this item is that Sony, who (shades of Beta) owns the Blu-Ray format, has a thing against pornographers using the technology. This coming from a company that had no qualms about installing malicious spyware on its CDs about a year ago.

I love it when big corporations know where their morals lie: sex is evil, but screwing your customers is OK.

Bleeurgh.
My money's been on HD DVD for a while now - with the Porn Housekeeping's Seal of Approval, there's no question. I'm behind you 100% about money shots in HD - lucky for us purists, it'll be a good long time before the equipment necessary becomes the homegrown porn industry standard.
