Amanda Who? Rocketboom 2.0 Blasts Off With Joanne Colan

joanne_colan_memedotca.jpgUnless you've been living under a rock for the last 5 days you've certainly heard that the internet's most watched video blog has had a very public shakeup. Initially when news first broke that Amanda Congdon had left the show in an acrimonious split with co-founder Andrew Baron it seemed the initial rush of sympathy went to Amanda. However, as I watched CNN last night do a quick blurb on the Rocketboom saga I immediately began to realize just how much of an underdog Andrew Baron had become. But let me tell you something you already know, everybody. LOVES. an underdog. It took Andrew a day or two longer than it should have to respond to all of the madness, but he finally got around to it and in so doing gave his side of the story some much needed personalization and airplay.

Here is Amanda's video unbooming:

Here is Andrew's video response:

So today marks the beginning of a new era and chapter in the Rocketboom story and it's recently been confirmed that Amanda Congdon's replacement is Joanne Colan of MTV Europe fame. If Amanda Congdon pulled in viewers with her sex appeal, it sure doesn't look like Rocketboom 2.0 will disappoint. Colan's a hotty, with a british accent and bundles of energy. If this is sounding a lot like Rocketboom 1.0, you're dead right. Clearly there's a formula here, and if you're Andrew Baron, why change it if you don't have to? So who is Joanne Colan? That's a question that will get answered plenty in the coming days as everyone awaits the first episode of Rocketboom 2.0 set to be launched today albeit later than the usual 9AM release time because as of 3PM EST, the new episode with the new host was still nowhere to be seen.

Q: How would you describe yourself?
Joanne: I'm a friend I’d like to have! Someone who, if I saw her on TV, would make me smile.

Q: What're your best characteristics?
Joanne: My curiosity, enthusiasm and the fact I have bundles and bundles of energy!

Q: What was your worst moment on MTV?
Joanne: There aren’t any worst moments, but the scariest was when I had to interview Marilyn Manson. I'd read his biography (The Long Hard Road Out of Hell) and at the interview had to share a sofa with him in this small room. The first few minutes were horrific -- it’s like Halloween in your face. But after a while I was completely relaxed as he's a very intelligent and interesting person to speak to.

Q: What advice would you give to wannabe musicians?
Joanne: Enjoy what you do and don't worry about not having an instant hit.

Nobody doubted Amanda Congdon would land on her feet without Rocketboom, but something tells me Andrew Baron will be just fine without Amanda Congdon.

There is one little thing that should be mentioned. Amanda Congdon still owns 49% of Rocketboom which means that despite the appearance of sour grapes, she has plenty of incentive to wish for Rocketboom's continued success. Which also means, and I'm not suggesting this is by any means a fact, but given how much publicity this supposed breakup has generated one has to wonder what the true story really is. Maybe it's exactly as Amanda has stated. Maybe it's exactly as Andrew has stated. Or, maybe it's somewhere in the middle.

Or, maybe these are two incredibly intelligent, marketing-savvy owners of a business who mutually wanted to go in different directions and subsequently mapped out a careful, manipulative roadmap to making that happen while maximizing the PR value of such an event.

But who cares about the truth? This is internet celebritism in all its opinionated smut-filled glory and the rosetta stone of the blogosphere for almost a week. So bye, bye Amanda Congdon and hello Joanne Colan. Rocketboom 2.0 blasts off today...stay tuned!

Update: As per the Rocketboom website the new show has been delayed until Tuesday, July 10th and it seems that an interim host will be doing the show until Joanne Colan permanently takes the helm at some point in the not too distant future.

Update 2: A video on YouTube of Joanne Colan doing an interview in Iceland:

Rocketboom 2.0 is off to a great start...

Already missed getting the Monday episode done.
They had at least 5 days to get the episode together, and didn't make it happen.

    Bad sign.
